Socially Aware Book Club - Braiding Sweetgrass
Montview Blvd. Presbyterian Church
This Saturday, June 6
9:00 a.m. | As I was reading Braiding Sweetgrass for the Socially Aware Book Club, I realized that the material in this book fits in well as background information for the proposed new study on water in Denver. It also gives guidance for an appropriate Land Statement we hope to adopt in the coming year. Hopefully the Book Club meeting will have a robust attendance to discuss the important ideas Robin Wall Kimmerer addresses. The group will meet at the Montview Presbyterian Church at 9 am on Saturday. Bring your morning beverage of choice and let's share ideas.

Ranked Choice Voting/Instant Runoff Voting
Denver Deserves Democracy, of which LWVDenver is a partner, has been out in the community speaking at Registered Neighborhood Organizations (RNOs) and attending summer festivals about bringing instant runoff to Denver. We need your voice to convince Denver City Council to refer it to the ballot THIS November. Here are the ways you can do this:
- Sign up to speak during the general comment period (5-5:30pm) before the City Council meeting on Mondays. Sign up opens on the Thursday before the meeting at 5pm aRanking ballotnd closes at 3pm on Monday. Reply to this email if you need some help speaking to city council.
- Write to your city council members asking them to vote to refer instant runoff voting to the ballot. Everyone has three representatives who represent them directly: their district member and two at-large members. Find your council members here by typing in your address. We have provided some sample text for you, but please do give it your own personal touch.
- Sign and then share the online petition on your social media accounts or via email.
- Teach your friends and neighbors about instant runoff voting by having someone speak about it to your RNO or community organization; or, get trained so you can speak about it yourself! Reply to this email if you'd like some one-on-one training on how to do this or to have someone come speak.

Moral Injury Virtual Discussion
6:00 p.m. on Thursday June 4
Hear healthcare providers Dr. Amanda Neidermyer, Marsha Thorson and Dr. Madi Jacobs talk about the moral Injury suffered by our providers as they navigate the circuitous, denial-based healthcare insurance system that robs Colorado residents of care, finances and life. We will also discuss how moral injury affects us all in the knowledge that we cannot protect our own family members from grave illness, injury, death or financial ruin.
We're building a movement for Universal Healthcare! In 2028, we will support a legislative initiative to establish comprehensive care for every Colorado resident, following and based on a major study underway by the Colorado School of Public Health (CSPH). Learn about the role you play in making Universal Healthcare a reality in 2028!
